We Heart Tuesdays: Men and high fashion

It will come as no surprise that here at Company HQ we love all things high fashion, and this week we are still full of beans over fashion week, which sure enough took our love to levels that even we didn’t know existed! But hang on, in the heat of all this passion for high fashion we started wondering is this love one-sided? Do men even like (gasp), or actually understand our innovative and okay, somewhat risqué clothing?

According to manrepeller.com they don't! Whose btw fabulous site goes by the following definition: Man·re·pell·er-“Outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex - Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewellery that resembles violent weaponry and clogs”

Now this definition may at first sound somewhat humorous and overstated, but actually proves to be quite valid amongst our fairer sex. A number of surveys and statistics have shown that men prefer a much simpler look, with detail made only to accentuate the female form (no surprise there then). The Belfast Telegraph found that with all the men on their panel the classic black dress - albeit 'fitted' - was always a successful choice in their eyes.

Now I love an accessory or two, for me a headband or a pair of oversized shades goes a long way in making my outfit pop, but according to MSN's life and style survey even simple accessories such as these are a put off for men. With big shades being classed as "ridiculous" and headbands, which I think, are possibly the simplest of accessories, according to the MSN surveyed men thought women who wear them are "actively choosing to look like Bjorn Borg".

Now some of you ladies may not even be one bit surprised at these revelations, as let's face it, men are thought to be the more simpler creature(!) - and when it comes to women's fashion the facts seems to prove so. But learning that the high fashion clothes we wear, which makes us feel good and on trend go as far as to deter men. Simplicity in fashion for men is reasonable when it comes to their own sense of style, but personally I think it’s about time they brushed off their unpretentious female style ideas and joined the rest of us women in the modern day of women’s high fashion, where bolshie colours and mismatching is the norm. And where Lady Gaga's meat dress can be suggested as appropriate dinner wear… okay maybe not that far, but still!

Let us know what you think, do you agree that men need to loosen up when it comes to women’s fashion? Or do we just need to accept their minimal trend ways. Either way, we’d love to hear from you!
