The best backstage gossip from the Virgin Media Louder Lounge...
It was the hottest V Festival yet and not just because the temperature soared. The sun shone on Hylands Park in Chelmsford all weekend and celebrities stripped off, plastered on the sunscreen and got out their sunnies to drink beer and eat burgers in Virgin Media's VIP Louder Lounge.
With an Enchanted Garden' theme, the area was full of cute white pergolas, garden statues with a twist and blow up lounge chairs.
Plus guests were given St Tropez spray tans, had false Shu Uemura eyelashes applied (they got through over 700 pairs on the first day!) and were pampered in the on site spa (we can vouch for the massages - great for getting rid of the aches and pains caused by sleeping on a blow up mattress!).
On Saturday we spotted Billie Piper looking gorgeous in a skin tight black dress and green Hunter wellies. She camped overnight with her husband and was spotted wearing the same thing to go home the next day.
We caught up with Mr Hudson just after his performance on the 4 Music Stage which he told us he was nervous about because he had to hit such high notes in Supernova so early in the afternoon (he managed it brilliantly mind). He tucked into a plate of burger and chips but kept quiet about his rumoured romance with Fearne Cotton. He also told us how much he enjoyed being on T4 that morning and thought Company's new columnist Jameela was lovely'!.
N-Dubz were spotted backstage before their set - Dappy wearing his trademark red hat and having a cheeky fag. Myleene Klass looked gorgeous in a maxi dress playing in the grass with her cute as a button daughter. Even Will Young and Gareth Gates (he pitched his tent near ours after losing most of his luggage off the back of his backstage buggy!) were spotted chatting - about the new X Factor perchance?! Company's food columnist Gizzi Erskine was staying in one of the cute pods (complete with solar powered lights) which we also checked out and gave her thumbs up to the BBQ!
We also interviewed VV Brown backstage just before her set on the Virgin Media Union Stage - watch this space for the full interview, as well as the much talked about pop soul band Vagabond which are being looked after by Xenomania who were behind Girls Aloud. Interview coming soon. Plus we caught up and did a TV interview with a very excited Underline the Sky, a pop punk band from Ipswitch, who were one of the two acts to win the Road to V competition which gives new bands the chance to open the Festival and be the first on stage! But really making the most of Virgin Media's hospitality was Charlotte Church and her group of girlfriends. They spent most of the Saturday away from her boyfriend Gavin Henson and his group of mates but re-grouped on Sunday morning by the breakfast van and were seen making up.
On Sunday we had lunch next to a wizard - the lovely Rupert Grint - who told us how he'd had to buy himself a horse's head mask to wear when he went out to see bands. He's pretty easy to spot and the crowd kept accosting him poor thing.
Holly Willoughby turned up looking very boho with festival hair and a floral shirtdress with jeggings. Dermot was also wandering around with his girlfriend and had been transported to the event on a Virgin Media Limo Bike - we got the same driver to drop us back to the station later!
As for the music Dizzee Rascal rocked ending his set with a crowd pleasing version of Bonkers (and yes they did all go bonkers to it), Calvin Harris was awesome despite just flying in from Ibiza (although he was too tired to make our interview slot - boo!), VV Brown did an amazing cover of the Kings of Leon Use Somebody, Company favourite The Script got the crowd singing along and Fat Boy Slim had them dancing (his graphics were great, too). Lily Allen was on good form and rushed to the site after watching the Ashes. On Sunday all eyes were on Snow Patrol as they had to fill the headline slot after Oasis pulled out (the crowd went crazy and spilt a lot of beer when they heard!). Oh and Amy Winehouse made a shock appearance singing with the Specials and interrupting Pete Doherty's set to give him an onstage kiss. We think they belong together! So once again it was a V festival to remember - we can't wait for next year...
